CSCC 2010

“Forming Missionary Disciples in a Digital Age.”

Welcome to the CSCC website. The Mission of our school is Forming missionary disciples for the digital age. This brings together two very important dimensions — missionary discipleship and digital citizenship. Both of these  are of vital importance to the Caribbean Church.

The Bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean met in Aparecida, Brazil, in 2007. They asked for a Continental mission and the formation of missionary disciples. CSCC answers this call.

In the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, Synod 2009 named the New Evangelization as a pastoral priority. The school, answering the call of the local and Continental church, commits to the formation of missionary disciples.

Being a communications school we are keenly aware of the rapidly changing environment brought by technology. In his 43rd World Communications Day message, Pope Benedict XVI asked the young people of the world to prepare themselves for evangelizing the emerging Digital Continent. The new technologies have moved communications from the dominance of the big media houses, to the user,  putting content out for all to see. With web 2.0,  interactivity has shifted to active participation of each user—Facebook, Youtube, Ning, Wikis have all contributed to this shift.

CSCC takes this new reality seriously in a Caribbean context. I invite you to explore our website and become part of this very exciting ongoing initiative. Look at our history of fifteen years, but look also at our new initiatives like the diploma in communications in partnership with City and Guilds, the University of Dayton and CREDI our tertiary level Catholic institute.

As students of the school we expect you to give six news reports from your parish, group and/or community. This will be done on the Social Network Site of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain (www.catholictt.ning.com). You are also expected to join us every week in Lectio Divina on the same site. Invite your friends and those in your groups to be part of the digital Community where we celebrate our faith and invite others to encounter Christ.

Become part of the change.
